I am so excited for my upcoming trip to New Orleans that I started to pack early for my trip!
the cosmetics/liquids bag
I think it’s wishful thinking to believe that my cosmetics bag (aka my “liquids” ) will ever not be completely packed. I try to take advantage of my space and quantity allowances.
As with my cosmetics bag from my Portland trip the majority of the products I am packing for NOLA are related to skincare. My two bulkiest items are actually two different types of sunblock; a sensitive-skin sunblock (Aveeno Baby Continuous Protection Lotion, SPF 50) and one with natural bug repellent (Sunshine & Glitter, Scout SPF 50+).
In addition to the full-sized sunblock, I also tossed in a travel-sized SuperGoop Refresh Defense Setting Mist SPF 50, which is a good way to touch up your sunblock protection without having to reapply your makeup, and a one-use SuperGoop Sunblock sample. My container labeled ‘M’ has my favorite make-up remover, the Body Shop’s Camomile Cleansing Balm, and I am also packing Sephora’s Micellar Water (which I got for 50pts!).
I have recently been using Glossier’s Solution to exfoliate nightly, so I picked up a similar product from Dr. Dennis Gross because it is more travel friendly and because it was only 100 points at Sephora! I also included sample size moisturizers: Khiels hyaluronic acid and Vitamin C moisturizer for day-time, Josie Maran’s Face Butter for a little extra comfort while sleeping in an air conditioned hotel room, and GlamGlow’s Glowstarter moisturizer, for just a little bit of oomph on makeup-less lounging by the pool, and another sample or two just in case. Last, but not least, I also included a couple of eye gel masks (from Urban Outfitters) to revive the sensitive skin around my eyes after long days of being in the sun and having more than a couple of drinks.
The makeup I’m taking in this trip is super low-key (for me). My base (after sunblock) will be the Bourjois primer (I bought mine from Asos), which is the only primer that helps my makeup really stay on my face, and this CC+ cream by It Cosmetics which has UVB protection of 50. I chose two lip colors, Selena’s MAC Collection lipstick in Dreaming of You for an evening/bar-hopping look, and Glossier’s sheer matte lipstick in Zip a casual daytime lip.
For cheeks, I am taking Fenty Beauty’s orange based Ridiiic and the blue speckled Confetti for an interesting blush/highlighter complementary contrast (as well as Fenty’s Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter in Ginger Binge/Moscow Mule). For my eyes, I am praying and hoping that my waterproof Lancome Monsieur Big mascara actually stays on my eyelashes, and I’ll be using my Sephora liquid eyeliner and the CoverFX eye shadows (samples) sparingly. I’ll definitely be using my Boy Brow from Glossier everyday though. This eyebrow wax will not budge!
Planning what to wear has been really difficult because even though I am used to hot temperatures in SoCal, I’m not accustomed to the really humid conditions I am going to encounter in NOLA.
I packed mostly dresses for the middle of the week, and outfits with a pair of lightweight, black peg pants for days I am traveling via plane. I also tossed in a new bikini and a pair of comfy silk pajamas.
Also part of my lookbook are a wide brim straw hat and a sun-protection umbrella from Bella Umbrellas (which has a store in NOLA). I’m so excited about my upcoming trip!
- I also packed some snacks, my camera, some hair accessories, and lots of band-aids in my carry-on.
- My Amazon Fire tablet is pre-loaded with lots of fun shows and movies from Netflix, including Stardust (one of my all-time faves).
- I’m also bringing along my travel notebook so I can keep a log of my experiences and expenses!
- I really have to work on my outfit lay flats.
